Our Therapies
What is Acupuncture?
With environmental factors and consistent stress, our bodies become unbalanced and our immune function is often compromised. We may also experience a lowered immune system or chronic pain. By tapping into the body’s meridians using tiny needles thinner than a hair, acupuncture can improve circulation, regenerate damaged nerves, and even heal scar tissue.
Many studies show that acupuncture is an effective healthcare tool in reducing painful side effects of cancer treatment, improving fertility, helping with chronic digestive issues, normalizing a painful or irregular menstrual cycle, autoimmune diseases, anti-aging, and much more. (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health)
We create customized treatment plans using a range of traditional Chinese medicinal therapies, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, supplements, cupping, food therapy, tui na, qi gong and lifestyle advice. In our acupuncture and herb clinic we will focus our energies on healing your whole person.

TYPES OF ACUPUNCTURE OFFERED IN HOUSTON
Find the Journey that is Right for You
How Acupuncture Works
Our application of acupuncture needles is done in the most gentle and relaxing of ways. Incredibly fine needles (smaller than a hair) are inserted into acupoints along meridian lines, which are like superhighways of energy across your body that communicate with vital organs in your core. In cases of pain, we might also use “ah shi” points, as in “ah yes, that’s where I feel it.” These points are not located in a fixed place on the body as the other 361 points are, but are found by palpitation on and around the center of pain.
Acupuncture Explained by Western Medicine
Though there are few Western explanations of acupuncture, there is an abundance of research scientifically demonstrating its effectiveness. Acupuncture increases naturally occurring endorphins and interrupts pain signals sent to the brain. Acupuncture is gentle but strongly effective in calming the nervous system, balancing hormones, detoxing, interrupting pain signals, improving mood, and so much more.
Acupuncture Explained by Eastern Medicine
From an Eastern perspective, we are calling the body’s own healing mechanisms to action. Your body was built to heal. Sustained feelings of stress, poor nutrition, exposure to harsh chemicals, side effects of pharmaceutical medication, traumas, and other life factors interrupt the body’s natural healing and rebalancing process. Acupuncture helps your body remember its healing wisdom and nudges it into action.
Auricular Acupuncture / Ear Seeds
Ear acupuncture (auriculotherapy) and ear seeds are a clinically-proven method for treating a number of conditions including PTSD, stress-related disorders, insomnia, weight loss, and various addictions, especially smoking. Check out our feature in the Houston Chronicle detailing the experience of trying our ear seeds!
The ear has a complete map of the body and mimics many acupoints – research shows auricular acupuncture performed on the ears is powerful enough to be applied as a stand-alone treatment.
Weight gain occurs from the liver, spleen, kidney, thyroid gland, and endocrine system. Auricular Acupuncture for weight loss can stimulate the body’s energy flow (chi) and impact the part of the brain that feels hunger, which increases metabolism, reduces appetite, and lowers stress levels.
Several recurring treatments for weight loss are required for maximum effectiveness, combined with lifestyle coaching by your TCM practitioner, traditional nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle.
Ears seeds stimulate important pressure points by affixing a small round seed to the surface of the ears with adhesive tape. While the drastic results of full-body acupuncture can sometimes take longer to notice, the relaxation response from auricular acupuncture generally occurs within minutes!
Cupping Therapy
Cupping has become increasingly popular, though it has existed for millenia. Cupping is a process which uses negative pressure to lift the connective and muscle tissue, as opposed to pressing down on it in massage type therapies. During this procedure, blood, oxygen, and, therefore, energy, are able to travel freely through this tissue where before it may have been blocked or stagnated by adhesions, scar tissue, and/or energy blockages.
Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy used to heal individuals from body infirmities via the removal of blockages and to re-balance a person’s life force, or Qi. Blockages in the body can occur due to a person’s ingestion of unhealthy foods, a lack of exercise, stress or illness. Some illnesses that cupping is able to treat include abdominal pain, anxiety, cervical spondylosis, depression, dizziness, gastrointestinal problems and headaches.
Fertility Acupuncture
Are you currently going through IVF or IUI treatment and need support to ensure you get the most out of it? Do you want to approach fertility as naturally as possible? Are you looking to avoid pregnancy or learn more about natural birth control? Fertility acupuncture has helped countless women achieve their conception goals. Whether you’re experiencing fertility challenges or women’s health issues in general, we look forward to helping with your fertility goals.
How does Fertility Acupuncture work?
Fertility challenges are linked to the endocrine and reproductive systems, which produce the hormones that control menstruation, ovulation, and menopause. These systems are very delicately balanced and can easily be thrown out of equilibrium by stress, the aging process, or any number of life factors. Fertility acupuncture regulates hormonal imbalances and enhances conception capabilities by optimizing the functioning of the reproductive system, endocrine system, nervous system, and immune system. Our patients report a better sense of well-being, greater energy, and less depression and anxiety after receiving our acupuncture treatments while trying to conceive.
The Benefits of Fertility Acupuncture
- Balances the immune system and supports general health⠀
- Optimizes biological conditions for improving egg quality, follicle count, and implantation⠀
- Reduces side effects of IVF medications and Assisted Reproductive Technology procedures
- Improves blood circulation to thicken the uterine lining, which is vital for implantation⠀
- Decreases uterine contractions to encourages implantation and prevent miscarriage
- Reduces stress levels while trying to get pregnant⠀
More than just Fertility Acupuncture
We treat women with stress-related infertility, elevated FSH, endometriosis, habitual miscarriage, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), cycle irregularity, anxiety/depression, and the side effects of hormone treatments.
Do you treat men for Infertility?
Yes. We regularly treat men who have been diagnosed with low sperm count, sperm morphology issues, and who are experiencing the stress of trying to conceive. Conceiving takes two – optimizing the health of both participants raises chances of successful pregnancy.
Herbal Medicine
Early physicians of Traditional Chinese Medicine established a robust practice utilizing Mother Nature’s healing plant life. They discovered numerous formulations of plants and herbs to gently and effectively assist the body in its gentle return to a state of balance.
Modern pharmaceutical medicine often comes with a hefty dose of serious side effects. Herbal medicine is much safer to use and less detrimental to your health in the long term. With the rising cost of prescription drugs, herbal medicine can be an affordable option to return to your natural state of health and avoid unwanted side-effects.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion or “moxa” is a topical Chinese herbal treatment used to strengthen the body’s digestive and immune systems, and to help with stubborn pain.
Moxibustion Used for Cold Syndrome
Practitioners of Moxibustion use this technique to warm regions and ‘meridian points’ by increasing circulation in these areas, inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi. Practitioners believe it to be vital in dealing with ‘cold’ or ‘yang deficient’ ailments, as well as for chronic conditions, deficiencies, and gerontology.
Microdermabrasion / Microneedling
Collagen Induction Therapy
Allow your inner energy and radiance to shine through! We are now providing microdermabrasion and microneedling services as part of our cosmetic acupuncture offerings. This full-service facial will include collagen induction treatment on the face & neck. Your clinician will help you decide which treatment is best for you based on your skincare needs. Each treatment includes aromatherapy, facial massage, breathwork, and skincare and face mask application.
Optional mini-facials and LED anti-aging light add-ons are available.
What is Acutonics?
Acutonics is the use of a tuning fork upon an acupuncture point.
Who is Acutonics for?
We typically use acutonics for people experiencing great stress, as it is an excellent method of sound healing that helps shift the body from sympathetic (fight, flight, freeze) to parasympathetic (rest & digest) nervous system. The calming vibrations that emanate from the tuning fork can help the body “shake off” or “break through” stuck energy.
This method is also helpful to use on certain particularly sensitive acupuncture points that we prefer to not needle so we can stimulate the point painlessly.
Cosmetic Acupuncture
Cosmetic acupuncture offers an overall rejuvenation that is not confined to your face. Similar to dermaplaning and microdermabrasion, cosmetic acupuncture creates microtraumas in the skin to stimulate the production of more collagen and elastin in the face and neck. It increases facial blood circulation to plump the skin, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, achieve a more even skin tone, and promote collagen production for increased muscle tone and elasticity.
Face & Neck Lift Cosmetic Acupuncture
A study on cosmetic acupuncture shows that 90% of clients have marked improvement in their faces and experience an overall rejuvenation that is not confined to the face. Cosmetic Acupuncture procedures are “Anti-Aging Treatments” because they affect overall health in a positive way, truly turning back the clock on one’s chronological age.
Clients look and feel younger because their energetic systems are working better – outward beauty and youthful appearance are the result of inner fitness.
Low Risk, High Reward
Anti-aging Cosmetic Acupuncture is less expensive, healthier, and safer than the modern treatments. Temporary bruising is the only risk, none of the side effects of facelift surgery and injections. Clients’ faces will never look stretched, burned, puffy, or banded.
ElectroAcupuncture – E-Stim Acupuncture
ElectroAcupuncture, or E-Stim Acupuncture, is the use of gentle, safe electrical stimulation on needles inserted in an established acupoint, or sensitive trigger points on the body. The current is between 40 to 80 volts, producing only enough stimulation for the client to feel a slight pulsating sensation.
The session begins with the traditional placement of acupuncture needles, then a small electrode is attached to two needles, completing an electrical circuit and allowing stimulation to run through the affected area. The electrodes provide a gentle vibration or pulsing that activates the emergy running through these acupoints.
ElectroAcupuncture has been proven to promote blood flow, alleviate chronic pain, and warm the muscles. Our E-stim treatments are performed in a safe, relaxing, distraction-free environment by a trained practitioner.
Food Therapy
Food Therapy is eastern medicine’s version of nutrition. However, in addition to today’s knowledge of things like calories from proteins, carbohydrates, fats, etc., food therapy considers the property of foods, such as cooling, warming, damp, drying, etc.
For example, in the winter we would do well to consume foods with warming properties (think soups and roasted root vegetables) vs. foods with cold properties (raw salads and ice cream). Or, for that matter, if you are someone who is “always cold”, consider eating warming foods most of the time – even if it’s not cold outside – to warm your body’s internal temperatures.
Food Therapy Recommendations Specifically for You
Similarly to how acupuncture points or herbal remedies are selected based on your body’s constitution and presenting symptoms, food therapy recommendations will be based upon these considerations as well.
Tui Na Massage
Tui Na (“Twee Naw”) Massage, meaning “push and lift or grasp”, is a type of therapeutic massage used in Traditional Chinese Medicine that is somewhat different from traditional massage. This hands on body treatment is meant to bring the eight principles of Chinese medicine into balance. Many Chinese hospitals employ Tui Na as a standard everyday treatment practice.
How Does Tui Na Work?
Tui Na uses a wide variety of strokes, accessing pressure points, kneading, friction and rolling of the muscles. This brings relief to chronic or acute muscle pain and restores balance in the body’s energy quadrants, which leads to a greater sense of purpose, fulfillment, and peace in life.

John W. Price PhD, LPC
John W Price is a depth-psychotherapist, educator, perpetual student, and former professional musician who co-founded The Center for Healing Arts and Sciences. His unique journey began in the world of music, touring nationally and navigating the exhilarating highs and chaotic lows of life as an artist. This path took a significant turn with the birth of his son, a transformative event that steered him toward the academic study of psychology, where he found a way to merge his profound interests in human nature, philosophy, art, and spirituality. John's academic pursuits culminated in a Doctorate in Jungian Psychology, where he blended his personal experiences as a musician with his expertise in depth psychology. His dissertation explored fame as a symbol for understanding the process of individuation, a psychological principle that Carl Jung described as the ultimate goal of human life.
John currently contributes his expertise to the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, a renowned center for humanistic studies, where he teaches courses such as "The Psychology of Shadow and Fame" and "Ecstatic Experience, Music, & Jung’s Red Book." He also serves as President of the Board at the Jung Center of Houston, a non-profit institution dedicated to studying psychology, spirituality, arts, and humanities, where he facilitates classes on topics ranging from "The Psychology of Projection" and "Explorations of Consciousness" to "The Mystic William Blake" and "The Origin of Satan." John's work emphasizes exploring the unconscious mind through depth psychology, ecstatic experiences, ancient religions, and the arts as tools for accessing the uncharted territories of the human psyche. His teachings seek to bridge ancient wisdom with modern contexts, drawing deeply on esoteric traditions such as Hermeticism, an integrative approach to healing attributed to Hermes Trismegistus that John incorporates into his psychotherapeutic practice. Through his popular podcast, "The Sacred Speaks," John continues to explore themes of antiquity, depth psychology, and the emergent field of psychedelics, engaging thought-leaders and practitioners in enlightening conversations about the transformative power of personal narratives. His belief in the power of storytelling underpins both his podcast and clinical work, reflecting his conviction that unraveling one's story can lead to profound personal growth. Together with his wife, Leila-Scott Price, John co-founded The Center for Healing Arts and Sciences, an integrative wellness clinic offering a variety of therapies and educational resources that embody his belief in the importance of community and interpersonal connection for growth and healing. Despite his many roles, John holds his family close to his heart, cherishing his most important identities as a father, husband, and seeker. His current projects, which include the ongoing work at The Center, the development of his podcast, and authoring a forthcoming book, aim to deepen individuals' understanding of spiritually and healing. John aspires to guide people in recognizing and reinterpreting their personal pillars, fostering a more conscious, authentic, and integrated existence.
Leila-Scott M. Price MAOM, L.Ac.
Leila-Scott, Co-Founder & Owner of The Center for Healing Arts & Sciences, holds a Masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, a degree in Human Organizational Development with a focus on the psychology of leadership from Vanderbilt University, and certification in Trust-Based Relational Interventions (TBRI). TBRI is an attachment-based, relationship-oriented, trauma-informed approach to human growth and development, which allows Leila-Scott to meet her patient’s emotional needs as they arise during acupuncture sessions, groups, and retreats.
Leila-Scott is also trained as a gender equity & reconciliation facilitator with Gender Equity & Reconciliation International. Many years ago, her journey led her down a path toward deep understanding of masculinity and femininity - both as they pertain to the genders (socially, spiritually, sexually, in partnership dynamics, etc.) as well as how they appear irrespective of gender (aspects of masculine/feminine energies which do not discriminate based upon gender and even have no relationship whatsoever to gender). This adventure had already begun with the foundational “Yin (typically understood as feminine) & Yang (typically understood as masculine)” approach to understanding nature within the Chinese medical model as well as the Tao, but took her to texts diving into pre-antiquity historical & archaeological findings, quantum physics, mysticism & spirituality, embryology, zoology, sociology, and much more. Attempting a full understanding of these aspects has become a full-time spiritual practice for Leila-Scott, who calls herself a devoted student of Life and the nature of Nature. She is currently developing a curriculum in an attempt to share her findings and help others find understanding themselves.
Additionally, she has completed multiple long-form yoga trainings which deeply explore the anatomy of mind, body, spirit relationship and also holds an International Culinary & Hospitality diploma from Le Cordon Bleu, Paris & London. Her yoga experience allows her to invite her patients to move in a way that meets them where they are mentally and physically and her culinary degree informs her ability to demystify holistic nutrition & food prep for her patients. Leila-Scott feels strongly that medicine, movement & meals are three things that should further our wellbeing, not make us feel worse.
She leads women’s support groups and retreats, and spear-heads the food therapy & movement components of the practice ~ as well as our product development and strategic brand collaborations. Leila-Scott M. Price has been featured in PaperCity Magazine, going into depth about her services and what they have taught her in the process, and was honored to be visited a second time by PaperCity featuring a video recorded interview. She has also been featured in the Houston Chronicle to discuss auricular acupuncture and ear seeds, ShoutOut Houston for her spiritual approach to mothering and being a business owner, and The Pillars Magazine of Episcopal High School featuring The Center for HAS.

Eduardo Saucedo
Eduardo Saucedo is a Jungian Analyst in training at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland. Eduardo is also a licensed attorney with a Master of Laws in Taxation. Eduardo’s legal practice was premised on asking what the legal needs of the client were, and how he might be able to help. His analytical practice is similarly tailored to the individual, asking the question, “What does a meaningful, authentic, whole life look like to you, and not what others (or society) may want or have wanted for you”? The contemplation and integration of this question is what Carl Jung called the process of Individuation, and this is the work Eduardo engages in.
A brief note on Carl Jung. Jung talked about leading lives in two halves. The first half of life demands that we learn how to be an independent person in the world as it is set out for us. The second half of life calls us to follow the spark within us that is urging us to bring more of our authentic Self out into the world. There is no specific age duration for these phases, and one half is neither better or worse than the other, but what is important is knowing (as best as one can) where you are and who you are, and living our lives as consciously as possible. This is the work of analysis, helping someone know themselves better, so that they may live more authentic and meaningful lives.
